FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons will be without receiver Rondale Moore for the season because of a right knee injury.
The team placed Moore on injured reserve Thursday, a day after he left the field in an air cast during a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.
The 24-year-old Moore was acquired in a trade with Arizona in March for quarterback Desmond Ridder, who was Atlanta’s primary starting QB in 2023. Moore, a second-round draft pick in 2021 from Purdue who is in the final year of his rookie contract, caught 135 passes for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons with the Cardinals.
Also Thursday, Atlanta re-signed punter Ryan Sanborn, who spent most of the offseason with the team before being released on July 24.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers placed defensive end Drake Jackson on a season-ending injury list in the latest setback for the team's 2022 second-round pick.
Jackson was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Thursday, clearing a roster spot and forcing Jackson to be shut down for the entire season.
Jackson injured his knee last season and was placed on injured reserve in November. He had a setback in his recovery and underwent surgery in January. He was unable to practice at the start of training camp and was put on the active/physically unable to perform list. But ultimately the Niners decided he wouldn't be healthy enough to play this season and shut him down.
Jackson was used as a part-time edge rusher in his two seasons but failed to make a major impact on San Francisco's defense. He had three sacks and 16 quarterback pressures as a rookie playing mostly in passing situations.
Darnold to start preseason opener
EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings will start Sam Darnold at quarterback in their exhibition opener, before giving rookie J.J. McCarthy his first NFL game action.
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell kept almost all of the starters out of preseason games over his first two years, but he said on Thursday that the majority of the healthy players on the roster would see time in the exhibition game on Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson and 13-year veteran safety Harrison Smith will not be among them. Neither will tight end T.J. Hockenson, the most notable player on the injury watch list who's still working his way back from a torn ACL and has yet to take part in practice.
AP source: Werner agrees to extension with Saints
New Orleans Saints linebacker Pete Werner has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $25 million, according to a person familiar with the deal.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because financial details were not disclosed.
Without going into contract details, Saints coach Dennis Allen spoke generally about Werner's extension after Thursday's practice at training camp in Irvine, California.
Titans' Farley out several weeks
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee coach Brian Callahan said Thursday that Titans cornerback Caleb Farley will miss several weeks with a hamstring injury.
The No. 22 pick overall in the 2021 draft left practices during the weekend early after feeling tightness in his hamstring. Farley left Wednesday’s practice after one-on-one drills and wasn't on the practice field Thursday.
It's the latest setback for the cornerback who has played in just 12 games with two starts in three seasons with the Titans.

EAGLES: Nick Foles, who led the Philadelphia Eagles to their only Super Bowl win during his 11-year NFL career, has announced his retirement. The 35-year-old Foles was a third-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2012 and played five years over two stints in Philadelphia. Foles’ career reached its height after he replaced an injured Carson Wentz late in the 2017 regular season. He went on to lead the Eagles to a 41-33 Super Bowl win over New England, throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns and catching a pass for a score on a play called the “Philly Special.”
JETS: New York quarterback Aaron Rodgers sat out the team’s joint practice with the Washington Commanders as a precaution because of inclement weather. With heavy rain moving through the area at the start of the practice, coach Robert Saleh pulled Rodgers from participating.
BEARS: Chicago will use its starters in Saturday's preseason game at Buffalo, which means the first NFL action for quarterback Caleb Williams. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft and the other starters were held out of the Hall of Fame Game last week.
