Summary
- Players can farm fusion cells by exploiting endlessly spawning synths in Fallout 4's Call to Arms quest.
- Leaving Danse to fight the synths can leave a pile of bodies with fusion cells, shock batons, Institute guns, and more for players to collect afterward.
- The only limit to this exploit seems to be the hardware running the game, which can limit the spawn rate or cause synths to despawn if left too long.
Fallout 4 players can exploit a seemingly never-ending part of a story mission to farm fusion cells, along with other items. Fusion cells are a type of ammunition used by laser-based weapons and can be found in specific locations, or on specific enemy types such as Institute synths.
BobtheGuy45 shared a screenshot of an impressive pile of synth bodies, stating that they left their companion, the Brotherhood of Steel's paladin, Danse, for about an hour at the end of the Call to Arms quest, and that among the pile of bodies were 170 shock batons, 430 institute guns, and 9,199 fusion cells.
When a fellow Redditor, Huntercin, commented that they wished there was the Fallout 76 option to "quick loot all bodies", BobtheGuy45 replied that it took "almost as long to loot the pile as it took Danse to make it".

The Fallout franchise is full of compelling characters, and of course players can find plenty of pals to love in the fourth main title.
It's Possible To Farm Unlimited Fusion Cells In Fallout 4's Call To Arms Quest
Just Don't Close The Door On The Synths
The Call to Arms quest sees players going to ArcJet Systems with Danse, where they have to face a large number of enemy synths. Upon entering a large room containing the ArcJet engine core room toward the end of the quest, there will be a point when synths start spawning endlessly, each with a lootable fusion cell. The aim is to go into a room in the back and push a button to close the doors to block off the wave of synths and start the engine's rocket to fry them. If players don't press the button or progress with the quest, however, the synths will just spawn forever.
The only limit to how many enemies spawn at any given time is the hardware of the console or PC that players are using. While the game will make players think that their companion is at risk if they don't push the button, they can leave them to fight the synths without complaint, creating an easy way to farm thousands of fusion cells and Institute Rifles while players can stand in a safe area and watch.
Depending on the system hardware, the bodies of the synths will despawn if left for too long.

Where Else Can Players Get Fusion Cells From In Fallout 4?
And What Weapons Do They Power?
Fusion Cells are beneficial, as the weapons they power tend to offer superior damage overall, with the option to do more damage per second when fully modified.
The weapons a fusion cell can power are:
- Alien Atomizer
- Alien Blaster Pistol
- Hub's Alien Blaster (from the Nuka-World add-on)
- Alien Disintegrator (from the Creation Club's Zetan Arsenal)
- Institute Laser Guns
- Virgil's Rifle
- AER9 Laser Gun
- Old Faithful
- Survivor's Special
- Protectron's Gaze (from the Automatron add-on)
- Good Intentions
- Prototype UP77 "Limitless Potential"
- Righteous Authority
- Wazer Wifle
- Laser Musket
- Salvaged Assaultron Head (from the Automatron add-on)
- Tesla Cannon (from the Creation Club)
- Tesla Rifle (from the Automatron add-on)
For those who don't want to exploit the Call to Arms mission and watch Danse fighting hordes of synths for an hour, fusion cores can be found in select areas across the map, or on select enemy types and are available at merchants for those willing to part with their hard-earned bottlecaps. Fusion Cells can be found in select areas across the map, or on select enemy types and are available at merchants for those willing to part with their hard-earned bottlecaps.
Fusion Cells are located in the following areas:
- The Institute's Advanced Systems division
- The Institute's Synth Retention division
- The Minutemen's Sniper Hideout near Gunners Plaza and Somerville Place
- The University Credit Union
- The Castle (a.k.a Fort Independence, Fort Adams, or Castle Williams)
- The Fort Hagen filling station
- The Prydwen
- D.B. Technical High School
- Boston Airport
- Concord Museum of Freedom
Gunners, Brotherhood of Steel members, Minutemen, and Institute synths will usually always have Fusion Cells on them, as they are equipped with laser weapons.
While Fusion Cells are hardly rare, being able to essentially unlock all the ammo players will need for quite some time by exploiting a level mechanic once seems extremely tempting. While Call to Arms does appear relatively early in Fallout 4's story, it might be worth looking to increase the available carry weight first by increasing Strength to Level 6 and upgrading the "Strong Back" perk to make the most of this exploit.
