Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Sitting amidst slump
Rotowire
Torres is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets.
Torres was hitless Tuesday versus the Mets for the second game in a row and also made an error at second base. He's just 2-for-29 at the dish over his last nine tilts and will get a day to clear his head. Oswaldo Cabrera will be at second base.

Yankees' Scott Effross: Moving rehab to Triple-A
Rotowire
The Yankees transferred Effross' (back) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Effross turned in a pair of clean rehab outings for Tampa, covering three shutout innings while striking out four. He'll likely be in store for a more extended stay at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that could extend the full length of his 30-day rehab window, which began June 19. The right-hander missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from October 2022 Tommy John surgery and has been on the Yankees' injured list for the entirety of the current season while he works his way back from December back surgery.

Yankees' Victor Gonzalez: Outrighted to Triple-A
Rotowire
The Yankees outrighted Gonzalez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Gonzalez didn't garner any interest via trade or waivers, despite owning a 3.22 ERA and 86:31 K:BB in 89.1 career innings in the majors coming into 2024. He'll remain in the Yankees organization and provide left-handed relief depth at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees' Juan Soto: Swats homer Tuesday
Rotowire
Soto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run and two walks in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.
Soto plated the Yankees' first run with his solo shot in the fifth inning, though the Mets had already built a big lead by that time. The long ball was the first extra-base hit over the outfielder's past eight games, and he's batted an uncharacteristically poor .160 (4-for-25) during that stretch. Soto has continued to reach base consistently, however, due to his willingness to take a walk -- across the eight-game span, he's accumulated an 11:6 BB:K, and he leads the league with 65 total walks on the season.

-
Yankees' Aaron Judge: Drives in five in loss
Rotowire
Judge went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run and five RBI in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Mets.
Most of his damage came on a grand slam in the eighth inning off Reed Garrett as the Yankees tried to mount a comeback from a 9-1 deficit. Judge is putting the finishing touches on a mammoth June that has seen him slash .386/.500/.871 with nine homers and 30 RBI in 20 games.

-
Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Mauled by Mets
Rotowire
Cole (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Yankees fell 9-7 to the Mets, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- and four walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter.
Making his second start of the season after recovering from an elbow issue, Cole simply couldn't locate his pitches as he served up four or more long balls for only the second time in his career -- the other such start came against the Twins in June 2022. The veteran right-hander did throw 72 pitches (44 strikes) Tuesday, up from 62 in his season debut as the Yankees gradually increase his workload. Cole will look to bounce back in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Toronto.

Rotowire
Rice is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
With J.D. Davis joining the Yankees roster, Rice is expected to enter the strong side of a platoon with Davis at first base. Rice will take a seat Tuesday for the first time since being called up June 18 as the Mets trot out southpaw David Peterson.

Yankees' Chasen Shreve: Joining Bronx Bombers on MiLB deal
Rotowire
Shreve signed a minor-league contract with New York on Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Shreve joined the Rangers on a minor-league deal in May but was released June 15 after accruing a 1.61 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 24 strikeouts over 22.1 frames for Triple-A Round Rock. He'll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following his most recent signing.

Yankees' Ben Rice: Logs first multi-hit game
Rotowire
Rice went 2-for-3 in Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
Rice was one of two Yankees with multiple hits in the contest, and it was the first multi-hit effort of his career. The 25-year-old started at first base for the fifth time in six contests since being called up, and three of those games have been against left-handed starters, against whom he's gone just 1-for-9. Rice has otherwise held his own overall in going 5-for-17 with a 3:3 BB:K, but he'll likely begin yielding some starts against southpaws to J.D. Davis, whom the Yankees acquired Sunday.

Yankees' J.D. Davis: Expected to platoon at first base
Rotowire
Davis is expected to be used in a platoon at first base with the Yankees, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
Davis was traded to New York on Sunday after being designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier in the week. Manager Aaron Boone said that Davis will be used in a timeshare at first base with Ben Rice while Anthony Rizzo (arm) is unavailable, entering the lineup when the Yankees face left-handers. The 31-year-old has produced a .265 average with a .795 OPS over 37 plate appearances against southpaws this season.
