To graduate with the IU Online RN to BSN, you must complete a total of 120 credit hours.
Requirements are broken down as follows:
- Nursing credits prior to admission to the RN to BSN (34–35 credit hours)
- General education courses (30 credit hours) e.g., 3 credits from each of the following competencies: Written Communication; Speaking and Listening; Quantitative Reasoning; Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing; Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing; Scientific Ways of Knowing, and then 12 hours of additional general education coursework.
- Nursing required courses (33 credit hours—nine required courses and a choice of two electives)
- Other courses of student's choosing (21–23 credit hours). Students can take nursing electives to fulfill this requirement.
To be accepted to the degree completion option, you must have:
- An Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or nursing diploma. Check with your home campus for accreditation requirements
- A current, unencumbered RN license in the state in which you are practicing and/or plan to meet clinical requirements
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale from your ASN or diploma program
- Completed a criminal background check for your home campus
- Met all other admissions requirements
NOTE: Students may enroll from most states.
Nine credit hours of general education courses may be taken with nursing coursework.
To apply to the RN to BSN Degree Completion Option:
- Complete the application for admission
- Submit official transcripts
- International applicants may be asked for additional materials
- This degree completion option is offered by IU Bloomington, IU East, IU Fort Wayne, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IUPUC, IUPUI, IU South Bend, and IU Southeast. After applying, you will be assigned a home campus. You will submit application documents to the Office of Admissions of that campus
